Traditional science is failing. DeSci can be the solution.
Traditional science is held back by paywalls, siloed research, and slow, centralised funding systems that limit who can contribute and who benefits. DeSci offers a new approach—open, transparent, and powered by global collaboration and Web3 infrastructure.
It enables faster discovery, fairer access, and a more inclusive model for funding and sharing scientific breakthroughs.
What is DeSci?
DeSci is a new way of doing science that is:
- Open & Transparent - Research is shared openly, breaking down barriers to innovation.
- Collaborative & Global - Scientists, clinicians, and innovators work together across borders.
- Powered by Blockchain & Web3 - Funding, data, and discoveries are managed transparently and fairly.

What is Web3?
Web3 refers to the next generation of the internet, which is decentralised, user-owned, and built on blockchain technology.
Unlike today's internet (Web2), where big companies control most platforms and data, Web3 gives power back to users. In Web3, people can own their data, control their digital identities, participate in governance, and directly exchange value without relying on intermediaries.
Key features of Web3 include:
- Blockchain technology: Data and transactions are stored securely and transparently
- Cryptocurrencies and tokens: These are used to transfer value, incentivise participation, and fund projects directly.
- Smart contracts: Pieces of code that automatically execute agreements without needing a middleman.
- Decentralised applications (dApps): Apps that run on blockchain networks instead of centralised servers.
- Community governance: Users help make decisions about how platforms and projects evolve, often through decentralised organisations (DAOs).

What is a DAO?
DAO stands for Decentralised Autonomous Organisation. It is a new type of organisation that runs through rules encoded on a blockchain, without needing traditional managers, CEOs, or central authorities.
- Decisions are made collectively by members through voting with tokens or membership rights.
- Funds are managed transparently, and everyone can see how resources are used.
- Rules and processes are automated by smart contracts.

How MicroDAO & DeSci can tackle AMR
MicroDAO is leading the way in using DeSci to fight antimicrobial resistance.
Open & Collaborative Research
Researchers and clinicians around the world contribute data, ideas, and solutions through our working groups and marketplace, forming a dynamic, collaborative network. This shared knowledge accelerates discovery, fosters innovation, and helps prevent duplication of effort across the AMR research landscape.
Incentivised Innovation
Decentralised grants enable faster funding decisions and support research often overlooked by traditional institutions. Profits generated through our marketplace are reinvested directly into advancing the most promising new projects, creating a continuous cycle of innovation and impact.
Equitable Access to Solutions
Research outputs are openly licensed to ensure that treatments and technologies are accessible to all communities—not just those with the ability to pay. Decentralised governance empowers the global community to set health priorities collectively, promoting equity at every stage of innovation.
Legal / IP
A mix of open and proprietary IP is employed to balance accessibility with sustainability. IP creators retain control, and where appropriate, the community explores innovative frameworks to ensure revenue flows back into MicroDAO to fund future AMR solutions.
